I had to wrestle with why I love overproduced, maximalist 80's songs but hate it after the grungewave. I figure it's because the 80's overproduction was limited in fidelity by tape, which is similar to the reasons why I love a lot of bombastic 80s movies. they were hyper real but limited by the tech
