Was playing Gungage for the PS1 the other day and... why don't we talk more about Gungage??
It's a 3rd person shooter from Konami, released only in Japan and Europe in 1999 and I don't think it was ever re-released since.
It feels like the most early 90's Konami game from the late 90's.

the vibes are so immaculate in Gungage. Music is going so hard, once you remap the controls to something more sensible in the emu it plays absolutely great. A hidden gem held back by the original keymapping imo

i've said it many many many times, but playing this game (gungage), along with another ps1 3d shooter (cosmowarrior zero) will enable you to shift your perceptions and see the problems of modern mainstream game design laid bare before you.
Just look at these names and try not to feel something.

13./14. Gungage/Bulk Slash
Both are 5th gen 3rd person shooters cribbing mechanics from STGs in different ways. I liked Bulk Slash, I'm not too hot on Gungage, but I think the latter's mis-steps were worth note-taking. Two games I'll keep in mental recess for when I someday learn 3D gamedev.
