I'm heartbroken for Ohio right now. The people who pushed through HB68, now combined with the new JCARR rules alongside newly advanced bathroom bills have made their position clear. This was never about protecting anyone, it was about eliminating trans people who lawmakers today called "deformed".

when ohio’s hb68 proposed a bioethicist be involved in trans care, no infrastructure existed for that. confusion & potential bottlenecks can both help & hurt enforcement.

While there is still the potential for an injunction in the courts, this paves the way for HB68 to become law while DeWine's administration moves forward with crafting sweeping restrictions on care for trans adults, as well as additional rules for surveillance of trans people through JCARR.

DeWine vetoed HB68 which is a HUGE surprise for me. It's good news on a few levels, not least that it stretches out the timelines to help protect Ohio trans kids.
I think Ohio Rs can still block the veto but for today, this is great news!

Both of my state legislators were big supporters of HB68, and they will waltz back into the legislature after the November elections without facing consequences. It’s infuriating.
