I've avoided getting into speakers because now that's a money sink, I already feel like I've spent more than I should with the K240, HD600 and the Truthear Hexas
Though I'd still like to get some good closed backs because of the construction noise and some planars because they look fun

Didn’t really get to do much for my birthday with everything going on so I treated myself recently to a headphone upgrade because I saw them on sale and my previous cans were breaking apart. I can see(hear?) why a lot of people love the HD600 and it goes really well with my Fiio k5 pro too.

Sennheiser HD280, more affordable than most audiophile headphones and doesn't need an amp like the HD600's.
Superlux HD668B, cheap semi open backs with a reputation.
And Grado SR60e, because his vid on them really sold me on em.

Good, quality headphones are this way—think HD600's, something with replaceable cables. The drivers rarely get any worse the older they are, unless you're like, hella abusing them! There are people still using 30 year old HD600's!

I don't have sound insulation (open air loft above living room) which is a downside, but I am in the habit of working with a pair of HD600 headphones that I've been using for like 15 years. That's my only complaint about small nook work life though, eg when I'm on a call and it's not too private

Me, my iFi Finale, Apple Music lossless, HD600's, and a 4.4mm balanced are going to be keeping me musically happy for a while.

Loving the HD600's, but they DO call out the few crappy MP3 rips I still have in my collection. They sound muddy and low-res, wasn't really picking that up in the ATH-M50X's.

Now that I'm all in on the HD600's, getting a replacement cable for the flimsy, too long OEM one. The replacement is shorter and terminates in a 4.4mm, which is balanced and should give more power output from my DAC/amp. Then I should be good for audio for a few years.

good headphones will at the very least require a decent DAC to be ran normally
your standard phone or motherboard output won't suffice in comparison when you're running Sennheiser HD600 for example
they're not too expensive either with the likes of a CX-PRO, FiiO JA11, JCally JM12 or US apple dongle

HD600's finally arrived, they sound pretty great. Not a huge step up from the ATH M50X's but enough to keep them. Midrange is pretty amazing.
