Hearing there's very low turnout, at least in Chesterfield County (not sure about turnout in Richmond) in the HD77 Democratic "firehouse primary" today. Part of it's the short notice, part of it's that candidates don't have much money, part of it's the wintry weather, etc.

Early Voting Begins Tomorrow, December 27th, for SD15 and HD77 Seats Delegate Mike Jones (D-Richmond) - Early voting for the upcoming election will begin Saturday, December 27, 2025, providing voters with convenient opportunities to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day. Early voting will run from December 27, 2025, through January 3, 2026. Delegate Mike Jones said “I encourage all registered voters to come out and vote early. When Democrats participate in early voting, we win elections. While you are out returning gifts or visiting family and friends, please make it a point to stop by one of our early voting locations and cast your vote for Charlie Schmidt for House District 77 and Mike Jones for Senate District 15.” Early voting will be available at the locations listed below. All early voting locations will be closed on New Year’s Day. All locations will open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on December 27th and January 3 rd . Virginia House of Delegates CHARLIE SCHMIDT, CANDIDATE FOR HD77, DENOUNCES CHESTERFIELD GAS PLANT AND VIRGINIA CLEAN ECONOMY ACT LOOPHOLES Chesterfield, VA – Yesterday, I attended the final Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) hearing regarding the proposed gas-fired power plant in Chesterfield. What I witnessed makes one thing clear: the Commonwealth of Virginia is failing Chesterfield residents. For more than two years, local residents and environmental advocates have worked tirelessly to protect their communities, their air, and their future. They have shown unwavering commitment to preserving the environment for themselves and their families. Their efforts continue to be overshadowed by policies that prioritize industry over people. It is long past time for Virginia to close the gas-plant loophole in the Virginia Clean Energy Act. This loophole undermines the purpose of the act and continues to open the door for new fossil-fuel infrastructure at the expense of community health and climate progress. We must put people over profits. And as data-center development accelerates across the Commonwealth, one principle must guide future planning: any new data center must be fully self-sufficient and should not rely on new polluting power generation that harms nearby communities. Virginia deserves an energy future that is clean, just, and accountable. Chesterfield residents deserve nothing less.
