HDHP, the AI Slop of insurance

This is gonna be "High Deductible Health Care Plans for All" if this money is delivered as HSAs which require a HDHP to access.

When you stay away from your phone, you realize it’s still 2003 outside

Then you realize that’s when Republicans moved healthcare costs from employers to [us] by creating the HDHP and created a wealth vehicle for rich people called a “HSA”

As the ~discourse~ seems to bend interminably towards Republicans trying to figure out how they can (further) HDHP-ify ACA coverage, it's worth revisiting what is probably our best (most rigorous) study on the effect of deductibles in health insurance.

At this point, HSA health care accounts are better than some non-HSA eligible HDHP accounts by a mile.

Even employer-sponsored group plans are seeing skyrocketing premiums and more than half of the employer-sponsored group plans are now HDHP plans with huge deductibles.

HDHP apparently means "High-Deductible Health Plan," but that acronym sounds like something I would load into the main gun of an Abrams tank.

HDHP* typo. High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account partially funded (with tax advantaged dollars) by the company

Relevant to Trump’s “all HSA, no HDHP” proposal
In what has to be one of the all-time turns of phrase in a scholarly paper, the authors note that, when faced with cost-sharing in health care, "individuals make decisions that are inconsistent with the general preference to stay alive"

it is Jan 28 maybe doing HDHP was a mistake

Maybe she found out she needed medication that her HDHP insurance wouldn’t cover or was exorbitantly expensive. Maybe she looked at the rising interest rates and realized that she would be paying off her student loans for 15-20 years and never be able to afford a house.

you're next... to receive amazing benefits from a HDHP

This is literally an HDHP plan. We had one of these when I was growing up, we called it crisis insurance. I used the same inhaler for 6 years bc a new one was $600. I still find myself rationing my puffs even though the new one is $10 bc I did that for so long. This is insane, esp for $2300 a month

Say you have a HDHP with a $3,000 deductible and get pregnant in the middle of the year…$5,000 wouldn’t even cover OOP costs for a normal pregnancy/labor/delivery (this hypothetical would not an outlier by any means).

--and other similar reassurances. It might not have been deliberate! His advisors may not have predicted all the things that would make insurers withdraw from markets and how many people would end up on a HDHP (or how many people had been on a cheap catastrophic plan)!

Dark ageplay: Your plushie is making you learn the difference between a PPO, a HDHP, an HSA, an FSA and a DCFSA by the time open enrollment ends.

We had the GEHA HDHP a few years ago and were happy with it, even with catastrophic illness costs it was reasonable. The only reason we switched was that I changed jobs.

🧵It was a WHOPPER of a workday yesterday, but I'm finally taking the time to really look at this, and I have some thoughts....

OTC medications: This, IMO, really puts an emphasis on encouraging people to enroll into HDHP with HSA's. While these health plans may work for some, the strings that are
Trump’s new healthcare plan is two pages long and one of those pages is a cover sheet.

It will be mildly hilarious if this evolves into “well, there would be public coverage after hitting a certain spending threshold” (M4A but make it HDHP)

sooo i know about dealing with insurance to try and get surgeries covered but less about the specifics of HDHP/HSA since i don't go that route (because im accident prone and late 30s lol) but yeah generally speaking HDHP/HSA is for healthy folks that won't need rely on expensive procedures

I knew a woman at work who said she was waiting to have her second child until she had saved at least $10,000, because odds are her HDHP would span two years + a new deductible starting for the baby. She only feels comfortable considering a baby once she's saved essentially three maxed deductibles.
