it really isn't. here's an example:
if you watch an NBA game on Peacock, it's transcoding the following outputs, which can be encoded simultaneously on an Intel i5-12500 consumer CPU (released four years ago)
could also be done on an Nvidia 2080ti (released eight years ago)

dolby vision is really pretty but put a hdr10 4k movie in front of me and i am perfectly satisfied with my home experience. i don't think i have ever encountered an hdr10+ enabled tv with hdr10+ content to play on it
