here is some promise thunderbolt 2 24TB RAID i never used. it has HGST drives in it and they are all good.

I can anecdotally say yes to this from the standpoint of being the ewaste broad who has a lot of hard drives
however the acquisition occurred around the point where WD black drives were flagship and 6-8TB. I have WD blacks here, exact same model, some WD housing design and some HGST design

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about the whole SMR fiasco, but nonetheless I kept avoiding WD so far because the info was still somewhere in my head!

hitachi's HDD division was bought out by WD in 2012 and shut down in 2018 after chinese regulators stopped requiring them to be separate from WD, the only remaining HGST product line is the WD ultrastar which are datacenter drives

Nach 8 Betriebsjahren die drei alten 2TB HGST Platten im Homeserver ersetzt. Die neuen zwei von Toshiba haben 20TB. Erstaunlich was die Technik in den letzten Jahren für Fortschritte gemacht hat.

Mixing 16TB Seagates + 16TB Toshibas looks like a good strategy. It’s starting to hit that sweet spot of terabytes per dollar.
Brand mixing should theoretically reduce simultaneous failure in a RAID scenario.
*Avoid* HGST 12TB drives.
