HMRC chasing tax debts of £43.8bn.

£20.2bn may not be collected, cost of living, rising bankruptcy pressures.

HMRC uses 103 IT systems, front line staff use on average 17 software programmes to deal with a straightforward case.

Years of under investment takes toll.

BCG faces HMRC tax probe in partnership crackdown.

Employer National Insurance (ENI) avoidance at LLPs.

Firms don't pay ENI on profits shared by partners. Incentive to classify workers as partners. Widespread abuse. Billions lost each year.

Chancellors haven't ended the anomaly.

I remember when Gordon Brown cut 31,000 staff from the tax service and slashed the budget for fighting tax avoidance by 48%, to "save money". Cameron then cut HMRC by a further 15%. At the time, I remarked "It’s like cutting your household bills by deciding to stop commuting to work."
Utter madness.

HMRC puts 200 billionaires on UK tax crackdown hitlist.

Hardly any enablers of tax dodge schemes prosecuted. They get govt contracts.

Little transparency of trusts, offshore excursions.

Require publication of tax returns of large companies and super rich.

Levy exit tax.

This didn't work.

The company will now have to face HMRC in a tax tribunal; I suspect its only real hope is that HMRC drops the ball in some way.

The vast majority of what HMRC is owed – £384,029 of around £410k – is so-called unsecured tax debt, which could include corporation tax or employer National Insurance. HMRC is unlikely to get most of this back and the taxpayer is set to lose out

There was someone on here defending it as "the people who dont use the NHS pay the fee of those that do".

In that case wtf are HMRC doing with the paycheck if we've already paid.

The HMRC classes anyone with income over 200k/assets over 2 million into a separate 'wealthy' group, and there are ca. 850,000 of them in total out of a population of just under 70 million, so about 1.2%.

The idea that you are middle class at that income is utter bullshit.

So when HMRC challenged this scheme, they assessed about £300k of tax (21% of the £1,374k gain).

The company's response: desperately run away and claim the scheme was always void.
