Just went on a firey rant

re: Scott likening Yud to Jesus.

Scott likens Yud’s ‘cult’ to Jesus consorting with sex workens.

It’s so out of line…

Yudkowsky hung out with Brent Dill. Brent violently abused women, while inspiring Yud’s Quirrel character in HPMOR.

Aella runs orgies with Ronny Fernandez, who keeps harassing women at Lighthaven.
in today's edition of rationalists are having a normal one, scott alexander (i think) compares yudkowsky to jesus and aella to mary magdelene

i know intellectually that watching a fate series or two to figure out what any of this means is probably not going to be as bad as when i actually read hpmor but i still feel like i’m definitely not going to do it

HPMOR "you're giving me a time machine to fix my propensity for cults??" is this anything
October 2, 2026 at 1:23 AM
Holy shit I kept recalling somebody I knew talking to me about HPMOR back in like 2012 but reading this paragraph brought it into focus - it was this guy!!

HPMOR is about how if you're smart enough it's actually your obligation to become god-emperor otherwise all bad things that happen in your absence are your fault

I can make some uncharitable assumptions but frankly (despite having read HPMOR in full) any time I try to read a Yud post my eyes glaze over
October 1, 2026 at 5:03 PM
yep. and for the record, did actually read HPMOR and impressionable young me found it gripping. so impressionable.

but it did not cause me to then read the sequences

I feel like the downside of those halcyon days is that our current crazies have learned by exposure how to integrate otherwise uncontroversial sounding aspects into their nuttery, to make it easier to swallow whole. Like there are def parallels, I feel, between Time Cube & HPMOR, for exampe.
October 1, 2026 at 4:10 PM
You could read on theHPMoR review on Dan Luu's site because yud rewrites most of the core arguments of the sequences in HPMoR but that wont count because its not addressing the sequences
If we address the sequences it's not addressing the version in HPMoR or the pro eugenics rape roleplay Planecrash

The HPMOR guy name dropping Counter-Force from the Fate franchise in a short story.

i explained hpmor to a crowd of aracheology master’s students today. i’m doing my part

On the latest episode of #MindtheTagsPod Vee invites Emily to explore the confounding and deeply upsetting world of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, which has wedged its way into some of the most fraught political and sociological discussions of our day.

He wrote HPMOR, and "rational fiction" is a result of that

And "basilisk" was a post by "Roko" on LessWrong, Yukowsky blog's and namesake forum. He basically popularized it because of his intense reaction in the reply to it

A friend sent me HPMOR about ten years back. The first couple chapters were a fun skim (little Harry having the least-10-year-old freakout ever about silver, gold & exchange rates was cute) before the accumulated curdled funk of the debate-club shut-in really got to me.

HP fanfic writers have killed more people than Manson did and responsible for more SA as well. Whether it’s the Zizians or the HPMor Folks behind LLM nonsense.
Charles Manson could write a Beach Boys song, but could he write Harry Potter fanfic?

i heard about HPMOR more than a decade ago and yet i was still not Online enough to have seen this coming

nice of apollo to miss me with the gift of prophecy i guess
September 29, 2026 at 4:13 AM
This may help.
September 29, 2026 at 3:39 AM
Yay!!! and/or Oh no!!!

I did have the sneaking suspicion that there might be one or two more HPMOR chapters remaining.

It’s like a whole set of people who only associate Abraham Wald with the airplane meme, and who would benefit from actually reading Blackwell, Savage, and De Finetti but won’t because they’ve got HPMOR and The Sequences. Cargo cultists the whole lot of them.
September 29, 2026 at 1:51 AM
btw: not any functionally different than the HPMOR guy saying victims with PTSD are fucked up and dangerous to other people
September 29, 2026 at 1:42 AM
it's so embarrassing seeing rationalists get roasted because I was sincerely all in on that lmao
I wanted a HPMOR tattoo for years and thankfully I didn't get it
and there are valid helpful things in there, it just sucks that the people writing the articles are racists and melodramatic sex cultists
