Happy Halloween! I’m going to share one of my favorite poems I have written that fits with the holiday. It is called How To Tell If You Are a Ghost.

It is about ghosts & PTSD. Full text is in the alt text.

How To Tell If You Are a Ghost 1. The most obvious indicator: if you should happen to notice yourself passing through walls and other solid objects. However, it’s more than likely you won’t even notice so this isn’t very helpful. (This text is white on a black square background overlaid on a darkly-lot photo that is only visible around the edges of the black square. The silhouettes of trees and a low sun are visible. There is a patch of blue sky in the upper left corner.) Full poem for those with screen readers who don’t wish to click through the rest of the skeets: How To Tell If You Are a Ghost 1.The most obvious indicator is if you should happen to notice yourself passing through walls and other solid objects. However, it’s more than likely you won’t even notice so this isn’t very helpful. 2.If you already have your suspicions you might look in the mirror— You will find that you do have a face after all but not the one you remember Life will also be like this. You will find yourself struggling to recall what season it is. It will take a minute for you to remember that October is the present month because you still linger in June 3.You may have heard that ghosts are transparent. You will be self-conscious about this. Don’t worry. It’s not the others that can see through you. Still you will feel it. At any moment you may come untethered and float away. 4.Yet still you dwell. In a familiar place you recognize no faces: Least of all your own. (see item 3) You persist in a time and space that no longer exist, leaving your body uninhabited. 5.You cannot move on. 6.The easiest way to recognize whether you are a ghost: Do you feel compelled to moan and shriek? Do you linger where you are no longer seen, nothing to do but howl and push over tables send forks flying through walls and though a poltergeist is casually commented upon, no one pays you any attention— Do you shake your shackles in their face as if your imprisonment isolates them rather than you—

The orange Trumpkin has reappeared
And is turning democracy
Into an autocracy
And spreading hatred, lies & fear
