New paper on crop processing at Harappa finds evidence that harvests were processed by off-site labour by re-interpreting the weed to seed radio. Given the Indus civilisation's conspicuous egalitarianism, this raises key questions about #equity in #urbanisation.

As a seven year old she loves Taylor Swift, K-pop demon hunters and comparing the territorial control of the the Indus River Harappa civilization with current political boundaries.

Agree about the Minoans though. Also the lack of martial glorification in their art. Always seemed one of the more enlightened traditions (my other favourite Might Have Been is the Indus Valley/Harappa civilization, if you know it).

It sent me through a rabbit hole! When did dice start having the 7sum pattern? I think the pattern helps keep the weight distributed. The Harappa dice (2600-1900 BC) 👇🏺 show no such pattern. I wonder if different cultures realised the pattern independently!

Oh yes, the Harappa civilization is fascinating.

Real shame that we ended up living in a world shaped by the violent patriarchal cultures of the mainland Mycenaeans and the Romans. (The Etruscans also strike me as pretty cool).

Terracotta dice from Indus Valley Civilization, dating from 2600-1900 BC, were discovered in Harappa, Pakistan. While their markings resemble modern dice, their true purpose, whether for games, rituals, or something else entirely, remains unknown.

How did people in the Indus Valley cook their food? Analysis of charred plant remains from Harappa suggests animal dung was burned to produce a slow, steady heat perfect for cooking, a practice still followed in much of the world today.

These really early urbanizations fascinate the heck out of me.

I can read about Harappa or Çatalhöyük ‘til the cows get domesticated.
