#HardTalk
The prospect of Newsnight ending is not just about saving money.
The BBC axed Dateline London and Hardtalk that were cheap as chips to produce.
The BBC doesn't like in depth intelligent political programmes.

BBC News scraps really good
and inexpensive programmes like Dateline London and Hardtalk but splashes out on a helicopter to track Andy Burnham.
Give me friggin' strength.

The BBC cancels 'cheap as chips" intelligent programmes like Dateline London and Hardtalk but has a dingy correspondent live in Dunkerque.
What a craven and weak organisation.

I’ve had a lifetime of disagreements with John McCain (who died in 2018), but this interview from 2014 aged incredibly well. It was his Nostradamus moment. He nailed Putin.🎯
I have no doubt he would have “done a Jim Jeffords” and defected from today’s Republican party. vtdigger.org/2021/05/23/w...

E ainda vive sob ameaças de morte de fundamentalistas por ter feito os filmes, que é algo que ficou bem lá no passado.

Tem uma entrevista muito boa dela pra BBC

A conscious and deliberate decision basically to weaken everything that demanded anything of anyone - whether it was effectively cancelling the old Newsnight, scrapping HardTALK, just at every stage a 'people won't get mad if we retreat from detail and rigour'.

In a 1999 episode of BBC HARDtalk, Tim Sebastian asked Nina Simone “So you sing from anger?” Nina said “I sing from intelligence.”
Today is Nina Simone’s born day. My love for her is boundless.

For several years, on this day, I’ve shared on social media some of my favourite things that Nina Said in appreciation and respect. I’ve collected them here in one place.

The BBC has a dedicated small boats correspondent called Simon Jones. Can almost hear him drooling over the numbers.
The BBC has cancelled Hardtalk and Dateline London, two intelligent programmes that analyse world politics.
That's not by chance.

It's almost criminal to see cheap as chips but excellent BBC News programmes like Dateline London and Hardtalk binned but trivial nonsense like #bbcLauraK still in the schedule.
November 17, 2024 at 9:22 AM
Also, literally nothing in the charter forces the BBC to prioritise Newscast over HardTalk.

Ending Dateline London, Hardtalk, the toe curlingly bad #r4today, the dreadful #BBCLauraK and #bbcaq, the deification of Farage...
Bit of a theme developing here.
The BBC has decided not to send its flagship Politics Live programme to party conferences this year, PolHome understands

An ex-culture secretary said it was a "further erosion" of the BBC's political coverage, and called for a rethink

I like Lisa Nandy but what does she actually do all day?
GB News drives a coach and horses through broadcasting rules and is a wing of Reform, the BBC News political coverage is woeful, cheap as chips programmes like Dateline London and Hardtalk are ditched, Today is dreadful, Radio 3 etc etc
March 19, 2026 at 9:59 AM
Bring back Dateline London and Hardtalk. Cheap as chips TV but quality.
