Parthian artists selectively drew inspiration from diverse sources. Greek realism held little appeal; they preferred front-facing, rigid figures. Mesopotamian creatures, however, were embraced enthusiastically; they just added wings, hooves and lion heads.

It was aesthetic syncretism at its finest.
