📚folks,
I do this thing where I do quick reviews of books I’m adding to the library, & WHY, then suggest #readalike pairings that I call #HaTrickLit or #FourScores — way to highlight new stuff & older stuff together.

Absolutely delightful. The melodrama of a K kid having a very bad day filled with minor (but so major!) frustrations. Empathy & amusement combined. We feel her pain. Text and pics match tone—an exemplar. The cover! All the side-eye throwing in the background scenes—YES!
And…
Cover of Ode to a Bad Day, featuring a young girl in three spotlighted scenes as if staggering across a stage in abject despair. Zoomed in picture of an owl stuffie or sculpture in the background of the kid’s room—that owl is throwing major side-eye her way; so, too, are some other stuffed toys…and tons of other animate and animate background things/characters all throughout the story.

Global trade via container ship is engagingly explained and visualized in this narrative nonfic/pic book blend. Excellent back matter on shipping, related jobs, etc. Great hidden cover with the ship as a partial cutaway.

#HatrickLit / #FourScores pairings in pics below…
I Ship book cover splayed open to show how front and back covers together make one huge container ship picture surrounded by port activity. Imagine if the publisher had made this a longer trim size; the ship effect would have been even better. Don’t forget to peek under the book jacket to see the awesome secret cover when you get your hands on this book. Harbor, a Donald Crews classic would make a great companion read-alike. He typically focusses on vehicles and transportation. His truck book could also help complete the learning around that aspect of shipping journeys. Ducks Overboard: A True Story of Plastic in Our Oceans is a book about a famous shipwreck that led to a container of rubber duckies breaking open and washing up all over the world. Those ducks helped with learning about how ocean currents work, and more… Cover of Stephen Biesty’s Incredible Crossections, featuring a huge cruise ship on the cover. Though there are many things shown in cutaways in this book, there are a few different ships. Seeing the insides of things is always intriguing. This book could bridge to many other topics…
