i has a mars
o nooo they be stealin my mars

RHSC & #HawaiiMars on Sproat Lake, 2012. i took her and @birb.mom out in my landlord's skiff, "around the corner" to see the tankers in the next bay over
a teenage white girl with long curly dark red hair, wearing a black and white woolen hat with ear flaps and braided ties, and a bright yellow PFD over a grey hoodie, smiles smugly at the camera. in the background is the red and white "Hawaii" Martin Mars water bomber floating on its mooring in front of the Coulson Air Tankers bomber base. the white-tailed "Philippine" Mars can be seen on land behind the red-railed Hawaii. Same kid in the previous photo, now making a humorously exaggerated "oh nooo" face for reasons i forget. The Hawaii Mars in the background is on a more head-on viewing angle in this photo

a true community gathering tonight, and all weekend. We were at a sold out showing of the Martin Mars movie tonight!

It was great! Apparently it will be on Netflix or some other streaming service soon!

Scored one of four signed posters!!

World Premiere of the Martin Mars Fire Guardians movie tomight in #portalberni

It is hard to overstate how special these planes were to this town of any in the world. We miss them like family. ❤️

A close-up of a poster featuring a large white and red water bomber. The Martin Mars. It is shown flying over a stylized background of trees and mountains. On the bottom is the text in a light blue BC aviation Museum. Between the text and the Plain are for signatures of the two pilots and two engineers that flew the Hawaii Mars to Victoria for its final flight and retirement. The young man holds a square poster with Hawaii Mars across the top and the airplane scene dumping water across a green forest at background. With the numbers 2024 on the bottom.

Martin Mars update! As I was coming back into town yesterday afternoon I caught a glimpse through the trees of #phillipinemars on a test flight with, presumably, all four engines borrowed from #hawaiimars now installed!

Even though the navy blue paint […]

A view out a window shows a blue sky with thin clouds covering most of it above a line of tall fir trees. In the foreground is a snow covered yard with a fence and small road. In the distance is a black speck against the clouds. The Martin Mars.

Last picture as we left. I like the angles. #hawaiimars #philippinemars #sproatlake #canoe #portalberni #history #aviation #usnavy
The pontoon hangs in the air six feet above the surface of the water. The plane’s rear section is in the back. The blue sky and mountains stretch to the west behind.

They have the GoPro ready and mounted on one pontoon for some epic video! Did I mention this is a large aircraft? :) #hawaiimars #philippinemars #sproatlake #canoe #portalberni #history #aviation #usnavy
Looking out from under the wing to the East. The Horizon has clouds hugging the mountains under blue skies. A tiny GoPro is dwarfed by the pontoon it is mounted on top of and framed by the wing overtop and the diagonal pylons holding the pontoon. Looking toward the side of the plane with the wing and tail cut off on the right. The tip of a wing against the blue sky with a fluffy cloud in the corner.

It's still got some parts that show its age! Like the little patch on the bottom where they weren't able to paint it 15 years ago because it was sitting on stands. #hawaiimars #philippinemars #sproatlake #canoe #portalberni #history #aviation #usnavy
A triangular patch of red bordered with bare metal on the bottom under the water. The water is green. There is a faint reflection of the canoe in the side of the airplane. A closer look at the side of the airplane shows two large double doors. The water is calm and green. The words Naval Air Transport Service are emblazoned on the back of the top of the airplane between the wings and tail. The underside of the wing with one engine and the double doors highlighted.

More #martinmars #hawaiimars stuff. A great story about a good friend of mine who is the biggest Martin Mars I know! I didn't realize he had the collection of memorabilia and artifacts that he did!

Went to Victoria #yyj to see a Jane Goodall IMAX film and then the new future home
of the #hawaiimars at the BCAM. The "MARS GOES HERE" sign was gone as a roller was busy flattening the ground.

We caught a glimpse of her parked at the Coast Guard station waiting to be moved.

An entrance to a large hangar building with a sign on the facing side that says BC Aviation Museum. It has a yellow float plane on the logo. In front of the building is a round plinth with three flags. A few planes sit on a field. The furthest is a small ConAir firefighting plane, beyond that is where the HawaiiMars will be. The Hawaii Mars is parked on a cement lot just above the water. A woman looks out toward it across a path and small bay. The woman is wearing a red Hawaii Mars commemorative TShirt A closeup of the Hawaii Mars amongst some small amphibious planes.

Though there is a small irony that the CT-114 Tutor is only 18 years the Martin Mars' junior (1942 vs 1960). :) (By first flight)

oh my god.

my microphone apparently died, or the connection from it to the camera died... in the last few videos. They are silent. The mic was on and everything seemed to be fine, but it recorded static for all of the last shots.

I am going to cry….

The #hawaiimars appeared to have some difficulties with one of its engines today. So I made a fun video of it running around in circles at the lake.
I'm sure they'll have it all tip-top in the morning!

A camera is positioned on a tripod. You can only see the camera looking out over a beach with a lake in the background. On the viewfinder screen of the camera is the white and red airplane onnthe water.
