Let's take a #WayBackWednesday trip to 2014 and the eruption of #Kīlauea Volcano, which was then happening at Puʻu ʻŌʻō Crater within #hawaiivolcanoesnp, with slow streams of lava meandering down to the coast. While this process makes new land, it also extinguishes some early lava field settlers. 🌿🌋

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes NP Construction #Update.
The Uēkahuna observation deck opened in May & its comfort station should open before the end of Sept. The new roundabout traffic circle near the park entrance is done & the add'l entrance lane for park staff & partners will be done soon.

A walk around #HawaiiVolcanoesNP reveals historic roads, landmarks, trails, buildings. Much of this infrastructure was built nearly a century ago by the young men of the #CivilianConservationCorps (CCC) between 1934 & 1942.

Pls bring your own water when visiting Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. The water station at Kīlauea Visitor Center is unavailable during renovations. A drinking fountain is available at Uēkahuna & a bottle filling station will be reinstalled there soon.🚰

Park rangers, the NPS Passport stamp station, Junior Ranger books, visitor services and the Hawaii Pacific Parks Association store are now located at the temporary Welcome Center at Kilauea Military Camp on Crater Rim Drive east located about 1.2 miles from the closed center.

A 33-year-old Hawaiʻi man has died after being found in a closed area of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park last week. Park officials say the volcano was not erupting at the time of the incident.
