#HeadTeachers
There may come a day when the BBC puts on air one of the other 29,999 headteachers currently estimated to be working in UK schools, but that day is not today

The way some parents treat schools, and headteachers* in particular, is just disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves.

My granddad came here, in migration wave, with 5 kids, racism meant no engineering job, became low paid bus conductor, council house, gran stayed home, 3 more kids.

Their kids became headteachers, senior civil servants, nuclear physicists.
Who judges whether my grandparents “genuinely contributed”?
Me: We let in way too many low-paid workers and non-paying dependents, we need to reform the rules so that only those who genuinely contribute can stay here permanently.

Wait - that's not @rcolvile.bsky.social below (though it's what he's arguing).

It's Powell's Rivers of Blood speech.

Doing a talk to headteachers and I said funding for something has increased by 6-7%. And I could feel the tension in the room as everyone resisted the urge to do the meme.

An unwritten rule is headteachers love a recession. It's the only time we can recruit decent support staff.

Never mind the under-16s, there are some part-time headteachers who need their phone confiscated and their social media restricted.
June 20, 2025 at 8:05 AM
This is exactly the kind of policy that should be left to headteachers, who know what will work best for their own school (and almost all have strict curbs on phones anyway). But the government wants the headline.
I suspect the government is going to get another crash course in the law of unintended consequences when pushing through overly restrictive knee-jerk policies without properly considering implications, especially, but not limited to, students with higher support needs.

I mean, this is truly insane. We are paying £££millions for these people to bully teachers and headteachers into breakdown and resignation - still going on 3 years after I wrote the article below. @lucympowell.bsky.social
