Thank you to RI Occupational Therapy students for visiting my office to discuss expanding access to care.

Occupational therapists help people get back into their lives and routines. I’m working to ensure all health care workers have the tools they need to care for our communities.

Kids in AL, CT, HI, ME, MA, NH, NM, RI, VT, WA, WY, & American Samoa can't get any COVID-19 vaccines this year. The FDA has refused to authorize the group purchases that those states & territories use to buy pediatric-dose COVID-19 vaccines (for kids regardless of insurance status).
RFK Jr.'s CDC isn’t letting states order COVID-19 shots for kids, blocking access
US health deptartment said it wants to ensure the vaccine orders are "appropriate."

2 Hot Dogs or 1 Large Cookie? A Study of Risks by Amount of Ultraprocessed Food
A meta-analysis linked ultraprocessed food consumption to major chronic diseases based on evidence from over 8.8 million people. Increasing consumption of these foods was associated with increasing risks of cardiovascular events, cancer, mortality, and metabolic syndrome/diabetes. The literature is limited to observational studies; it's not been proven that avoiding ultraprocessed foods is beneficial to health. A line could be drawn between how much ultraprocessed food a person eats and their risk of major chronic diseases, according to a meta-analysis.

Chemicals Linked to Breast Cancer Are 'Ubiquitous,' Study Shows
The more scientists look for chemicals that can increase breast cancer risk, the more they find. Hundreds of potential breast carcinogens lurk in consumer goods, food, drinking water, pesticides, drugs and building materials, scientists reported in a peer-reviewed study published Wednesday in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. Exposure to these chemicals is ubiquitous, the authors warn, yet biomonitoring efforts are failing to measure people’s exposures to most chemicals or assess risks from compound exposures. Chemicals found in and derived from fossil fuels accounted for some of the largest production volumes and environmental releases of potential breast carcinogens, said lead author Jennifer Kay, a research scientist at the Silent Spring Institute, which works to reduce toxic threats to women’s health. She called widespread use of petrochemicals, particularly to make plastic, “a huge problem.” Bisphenols and phthalates, chemicals produced at high volumes for plastics, can damage DNA, trigger cell division and increase breast cancer risk or severity. Most breast cancers occur in women 55 and older, as cells lose their ability to repair genetic damage and start dividing abnormally. Breast cancer rates have been rising in recent years for all women, with steeper increases among younger women. These trends cannot be explained...
