The Apollos actually also angled their entry to get hypersonic lift off their heatshields! It's a classic way to limit peak heating and gee-loads on fast reentries.

We took out the exhaust and heatshields, driveshaft, and we fought with the long tube headers but ultimately won.

Heatshields are actually an amazingly stupid way of thinking about this. Someone pulling all oxygen in the room actually makes it easier to sink other nominees, not harder.

Tomorrow's plan are reinstall the intake, otherwise the bolt werent accessible, even with 3 feet of ratchet extensions.
Reinstall the headers, which are a bitch, driveshaft, heatshields, exhaust, then start the car !
All that will be left are shifter bushings from Condor, when i recieve them !

Playing with the Catulus more. Redid the sidepipes with better materials. A friend also suggested flaked paint on the heatshields and it looks sick.

As an example, the heatshields SpaceX uses were developed cost-free to SpaceX in NASA laboratories with ceramics experts and metallurgists on call to use the specialized equipment.

i had a more-destructive one, then deleted. i see the consensus was zip ties, which are a great fixer, but in hot areas (like on heatshields) wouldn't be my first pick. there do exist metal cable ties which might do it, but i'd default to just fence/bailing wire to tie it up, if i didnt rip it off.

They first succesfully landed the booster & ship during Flight 4. But yes, to test Thermal Protection Systems. Aka heatshields and cooling during re-entry, which is one of the big hurdles for rapid reusability.

afaik.. the speed of entry into earth atmosphere is 40% higher for lunar descent then LEO termination.. => (1+0.4)^2 = 2x more energy to dissipate.. ISS capsule heatshields have it easy in comparison...
