#Hejinian
For those who may be astonished, I now have an online video (actually, recording with Powerpoint) of my lecture on Walter Benjamin and Lyn Hejinian: *A Poetics of Refunctioning*. The print version of the essay is also in the works. Until then-- savoirs.ens.fr/expose.php?i...

Lyn Hejinian never won the Nobel but her junior Anne Carson did for work praised in the same terms. Carson glues her components with more sentiment and syrup, and this is liked for personality and lyricism. But for me of pop ballads or Schubert, never Boulez or as full-on and orchestral as Mahler

#poetry ✨️✨️

A dream, still clinging like light to the dark, rounding
The gap left by things which have already happened
Leaving nothing in their place, may have nothing to do
But that. Dreams are like ghosts achieving ghosts’ perennial goal
Of revoking the sensation of repose.

Inspired by 'The composition of the cell' by Lyn Hejinian, the program is finding its language as in its own environment. Tracking daily observations becomes an act of scientific and poetic precision.

3.4 Reality moves around making objects appear as if they belong where they
are.
4.2 Exactly!

Yeah the excerpt you posted on Substack.

Silliman has influenced me too (along with Hejinian, Armantrout, Bernstein, et al). And that whole tradition
(or anti-tradition) that maybe begins with Baudelaire, but could be traced back further, and leads through surrealism to the present.

Lyn Hejinian was so important for my breaking beyond the early days of learning poetry to try to do more, to expand my notion of what’s possible. Thinking of her with gratitude today. RIP.

A reading for our most cherished Lyn across all the languages this Saturday, on what would've been her 82nd birthday. I'd say far more but these tidbit, "pitch" formats are particularly unwelcoming for writers the likes of me—just come & hear her work as polyphony! www.facebook.com/events/13981...
