You’re standing in a vast, otherworldly landscape - raw, wind-swept, and breathtakingly stark. In the distance rises the volcano Hekla, one of Iceland’s most infamous peaks, its upper slopes brushed with streaks of snow like icing dragged by a hurried hand. But today, Hekla hides its crown in thick, swirling clouds, as if keeping ancient secrets tucked beneath a heavy gray sky. Beneath the volcano, something extraordinary unfolds: a sandstorm dances across the barren plain. It doesn’t roar, but hisses and whispers as gritty gusts sweep over the ochre earth. Fine dust lifts in delicate, chaotic ribbons, painting the scene with motion and mystery. The ground is a mix of reddish-brown and pale , crisscrossed with natural veins and patterns etched by time and wind. In places, a hint of green moss clings to the surface - stubborn life in an otherwise harsh and barren world. so.... the literature cites the first magnetic tape recordings of volcanoes as the 1950 recordings by NHK Broadcasting Bureau of the Strombolian eruption of Izu-Oshima volcano.

But when I was at GVP during AGU we found recordings of Hekla labeled as 1947!
