Factual thoughts: Scott Pelley and Henry Schuster were embedded with my Marine infantry unit in 2009—it was incredibly violent in Helmand. They told our story well. Years later, my unit suffered multiple suicides, they came back to cover that too.

Most Americans have no idea how much goodwill is generated by USAID around the world. That goodwill keeps Americans safer. The budget is minuscule compared to others and 97% must be spent on American products.

The Danish presence in Afg was fairly small (a battalion), but the DANBAT fought hard for years in a very tough district of Helmand—unlike some NATO nations with larger contingents that took on relatively quiet sectors in the west and north and had restrictive “national caveats.”

Danish, British and Estonian troops served in Helmand, and Canadian forces in Kandahar - the two most dangerous Afghan provinces.
