The abstract sculpture "Reclining Figure: Bunched" by Henry Moore, as seen in Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2010.

#Photography #sculpture #Art #henrymoore #yorkshire #yorkshiresculpturepark #Abstract
An abstract bronze sculpture rests on a granite plinth in a field on a lightly overcast day. The plinth is a rectangular block in dark stone while the sculpture is green-tinted with its exposure to the elements. The overall shape is that of a human figure resting on on its side with body raised up slightly, but the abstract nature of the work introduces a lot of warping to the overall shape with some holes through the form and some merging of body parts, such as the legs melting together on the right. The field behind has green grass, kept short naturally by sheep, one of which can be seen chewing in the background. A small fence and a tree line separates this field from others beyond rising up a hill in the distance.

Visited an outdoor exhibition of Henry Moore sculptures. Really enjoyed the juxtaposition of contemporary art and nature in the gardens. This one was my favourite

Henry Moore made his name on marine scenes like this - the Gulf of Rosas in tight, weighty brushstrokes, sails cutting across dark water below snow-capped peaks. Oil on cardboard, and every wave looks carved rather than painted.

A wide coastal panorama painting. In the foreground, a deep teal-blue sea fills the lower half of the composition, its surface broken into choppy waves rendered with visible brushstrokes and flecks of white foam. Three white-sailed boats cross the water on the right side, small against the vastness of the sea. Beyond the water, a rugged coastline of ochre and reddish-brown rocky hills and cliffs stretches across the middle ground, with a small cluster of buildings faintly visible near the shore. Henry Moore's Two Piece Reclining Figure from 1979 has almost perfectly created the form that I take on the lounge floor, supported by a bean bag, knees raised, feet on the floor watching some crap on tv. #HenryMoore #Sculpture #KewGardens

From there, Moore’s monumental bronzes invaded public spaces worldwide—from the UN’s 'Reclining Figure' to the hills of Yorkshire. The Henry Moore Foundation now preserves his legacy. That miner's son had reshaped sculpture itself. #henrymoore #publicart

Fabulous trip to @kewgardens with the @WCWCatford volunteers to see the #henrymoore #sculptures. The #communityday was cancelled due to the hot weather and there were hardly any visitors so was great to see the outdoor exhibition without the crowds.
