"Writing for an audience of scientists would force historians of science to look up and outwards from trends within their discipline. It would also oblige them to forge new kinds of narratives." Here's looking at you #sts #histm
New from Lorraine Daston & Peter Harrison "COVID-19 pandemic showed us all that neither scientists nor historians have done a particularly good job of explaining how science works: that fierce controversy over how to make sense of empirical results is a feature, not a bug"

Okay suggestions please - clips/ short films for teaching about nonhuman agency of various kinds? Fairly light, as it's for an end of term environmental class. So far am thinking Spirited Away (parents becoming pigs and the river dragon), but could do with more ideas?

Smart
We encounter the idea of intelligence everywhere in our modern lives. Parents are told that their children will grow up smart if they are made to listen to Mozart, play with the right toys, and eat…

Interesting thought. Already happening/interacting with #STS in studies of organisations, collaboration, interdisciplinarity etc. Also raises nice meta Qs for #histm #philsci on when, where, whether there has been 'psychology of science' + relationships with STS, HPS etc
Interesting informed proposal for a psychology of science. People who study causal learning, concept acquisition, updating of beliefs are already doing some of this. But this is more specific, including the idea of studying wellbeing in science, which i like a lot (especially if it covers illbeing!)
You must have of history, philosophy, maybe sociology of science.
What about psychology of science?
Are the inner factors of scientists not an important area to study? I disagree and propose an agenda for psychology of science here: rdcu.be/dtSWj at

I worry about this too, but rarely see discussed. Does anyone out there know of scholarship on utopias/dystopias, futures, fictions etc that pokes at the idea? #STS #envhums #histci #histm
