High federal deficits in the US look likely to continue for a while, but extremely low household saving rates are the biggest potential risk factor -- a reversion to longer-term norms would reduce corporate profit growth meaningfully.

Our region lost more than 100,000 jobs last year. To create opportunity for our residents, DC has to be the best place in the country to start and grow a business.

That means supporting our businesses and workers, filling Downtown vacancies, and attracting new high-growth industries.

If, over 10 years, you have one year of high catch-up wage rises, then wage rises after this year would settle back, but pensions would continue to rise due to inflation or 2.5%. Pension growth has the high rise baked in whereas wage growth falls back. The new ‘double lock’ removes the bake-in.

Will all these tailings dams’ safety be re-evaluated into the future in the light of potential changes in precipitation? I’m also thinking of the 350ft high (with plans for growth) Fort Knox tailings dam up in the Little Chena River drainage. Who owns the liability after mining & milling ends?

It won’t save much immediately, but over a Parliament it could plausibly save around £3–5bn, depending on inflation and wage growth.

However, if we get another big period of high inflation (followed by high wage growth), it could save far more.
