It's like they inherited this profound understanding of metaphysical philosophy, history, computational cognitive sciences and as such can veto any kind of research under the umbrella of humanities. All while forgetting about the existence of animals?

An endowed chair in the humanities at CUNY is going to be about $3 million. I would argue that endowing faculty lines in the history of democratic socialism, theories and practices of political organizing would be a better use of $ policy.cuny.edu/general-poli...

Fuck this article. Give me a job that uses my History degree. Stop fucking over people who went to school for humanities.
I was raised by a nurse with an associates degree and a steel mill electrician. I am not denigrating the value and dignity of blue collar work when I ask how many elite national media staffers are raising future bricklayers themselves.

In 2020 I started an art history ma with @openuniversity.bsky.social I got merit in the 1st module & switched to a broader humanities MA to study creative writing, as my focus had shifted. Anyway, I got a distinction in the writing module. So that’s nice. But true to form, I’m unsure what’s next. 🤔

I also think the lt. gov or VA, Dr. Ghazala Hashmi, has shown a model for making a proactive case for the humanities. I'd like to see more Dems take up this model. So show people why books matter! Why history matters! Do a tour with some passionate K-12 teachers!

How cultural expression shapes policymaking and why it matters for democracy
The Smithsonian Institution, alongside the Kennedy Center and agencies such as the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), play an essential role in preserving a functioning democracy. They safeguard national history, support arts education, and ensure that arts and culture remain accessible to all Americans. However, these cultural institutions have become a flashpoint for political power struggles. On Sept. 8, 2026, Secretary Lonnie Bunch, the Smithsonian Institution’s first Black secretary, announced his retirement following a year of intense White House scrutiny. That pressure traces back to March 2025, when the Smithsonian was targeted by an executive order, “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” to remove what the administration called “improper ideology” from its museums. Trump vowed to cancel the upcoming renovations unless the court overrules its decision and allows his name to be reinstated on the building, also...
