Shoved the Iron Stone Anky section east of Utahraptor Ridge and the Doellings Bowl section into my X-section of rhe lower Cedar Mt. in eastern Utah. The cervical spine @jlivelypaleo.bsky.social found compares well with that of the new Anky from DB & is from same level at top of histosol interval.

Histosol soil type, a raised-bog peat section. This is the type profile of the Allen Series soils, described by the late Robert F. (Bob) Hammond, who in his lifetime gave some images to UCD Soil Science for wider circulation.

Peatlands emit acids that mobilize iron (Fe), which is rather immobile at neutral pHs. Thus, ironpans often occur in #Soils beneath #PeatBogs. But some Fe escapes into streams in chelated forms & flows to the oceans. If oceans are deficient in Fe, then do #Peatlands help fertilize marine ecosystems?
