It's not as easy as you think. Gallbladders get submitted in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin, a carcinogen. The decontamination process alone is a pain, and every histotech would hate you for the request.

I'll be doing histotech work for a few months in labs that need extra help, I'm mostly excited to travel to cities I've never been!!

Yeah being my own breadwinner is the only way I can do conventions and spend as much on my fiction as I can
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

As a histotech (the lab tech who gets your polyps and processes them) I second this. You don't want some giant, friable, colon-blocking polyp all up in there. They're gross. Histotechs everywhere will thank you for being checked early and often.

Had a huge mental breakdown during my time being a histotech DIRECTLY because of management and the general toxic work environment but I still miss my shift team. Even made a whole artwork for them where we were a DnD team and based each character off their personalities/capabilities.

... and most people don't even know what a histotech is let alone that there's a job market for them. That's what I used to do before covid, school shootings, and the general psychosis of my country gave me a mental break where I was afraid to leave the house. Pays pretty good and is low stress.

- There are a lot of niche job types that are always struggling for people to the point that if you call around to them directly they might work out a deal to help with moving expenses or even any certifications/training you might need. Histotech is a good one and everywhere needs histotechs....

Just wondering how the heck to get out of the US while I can. I have a tiny savings, massive student loans, medical debt, yes, I use my degrees, debt, and just trying to survive. I've made bad and good choices, my own responsibility. I really see nothing good happening. I am a certified histotech

It's always interesting to see the way people react when I tell them I'm a histotech and then have to explain what it is I do because there's no great way to describe it
