31 humans & 3 dogs took part in our station walk Saturday from Derby Road to Ipswich via Holywells Park & Ipswich Waterfront. There were lots of new faces and many old friends. The park features 28 hectares of woodlands/ponds/greenspace. Many folks stayed in town to take part in Heritage Open Days.

The next FREE station-to-station walk is Saturday 12 September @ 11.10am: Derby Road to #Ipswich via lovely Holywells Park with its wooded ravine/trails, & Ipswich waterfront. 3.5 miles, about 2 hours. No need to book. Dogs welcome!

A wide, tranquil stone-lined pool of perfectly clear water reflects bare and early-budding trees from a grassy slope behind it. On the left, a small circular stone platform supports a weathered stone cross. The water is so transparent that dark green aquatic weeds carpeting the bottom are clearly visible, creating a deep green undercurrent beneath the glassy sky-and-tree reflections. The mood is calm, still, and cool, filled with natural green and grey tones under soft daylight.

Bought in 1924 with some of the Chatsworth millions when Ivan Cobbold married Lady Blanche Cavendish, eldest daughter of the Duke of Devonshire. They gave up Cliff House in Holywells Park in Ipswich, which was given to the Borough, which is why I now have a lovely urban park opposite my house!

Today's share indulges my love of history, #holywells and historic water sources. This well is a source of lime rich water and one of several on the Great Orme known used for washing copper ore during the bronze age. Ffynnon means spring/fountain. Galchog is lime. #photography

A low stone wall surrounding a circular pool in a fueld. One of a few St Patrick's Wells along the Lancs coast. This one isn't well known, but the legend is that St Patrick came ashore here from Ireland and struck his staff into the ground for something to drink.

Fields drilled, time to get the bike out. Trip out to woodland near Belstead, then drifting back along the Orwell and waterfront, then back home via Holywells park & cafe.
