"food trucks can be very difficult for young homeowners turning into their parents" OMG you people can't do anything

Now, it seems to me that at this point the homeowners are effectively tenants and a tenants union could be a powerful response.

Individual homeowners should just pay taxes to a municipality staffed by people they can vote for

sounds like weary parents and homeowners are god's wettest pussies

i know in my heart of hearts that california is gonna vote the wrong way on like 80% of the props because ca homeowners are reactionary freaks and a lot of renters are aspirational reactionary homeowners so im just trying not to think about election stuff at all 👍

Just my 2c on the vibes rn: Prices increasing of things that you have little or no discretion whether to buy or not — health insurance, homeowners' insurance, daycare, electricity, gas etc — hurts a lot more than increases in the prices of discretionary items

I think a good diagnostic for people on here is:

1. Ask yourself what percentage of millennials nationwide are homeowners

2. Write that number down

3. Look up the actual number
I’ve spent a very large portion of my career studying housing costs, I don’t say this flippantly. New York and Los Angeles are big places. They are also absolutely dwarfed by the country in which they are situated, in which housing access hasn’t changed much overall in decades.

Given the intense focus on affordability, it is bizarre there has been so little mention of homeowners' insurance. Do economists and economic reporters not know what it is?
For reality fans, if home insurance was included in the Consumer Price Index, it would be between 0.1-0.2 percentage points higher www.lendingtree.com/insurance/st... This increase is largely due to global warming.
State of Home Insurance: 2026
Between 2020 and 2025, home insurance rates climbed a cumulative 46.8% nationally — and not a single state was spared.

just a reminder that suburban homes broadly and homeowners associations more specifically are creations that are designed to starve public institutions of funding and drive a stake directly into the heart of collectivism
Local developer raises HOA fees a whopping 1400% over 5 years. Now at $90k a year. He owns most of the homes in development, rents them. The minority of resident homeowners have no real legal recourse.

A spectacular aerial photograph of Beachwood Drive as it meanders up into the Hollywood hills toward the Hollywoodland sign in 1924.

(At this stage the development was still mainly on the level ground with only a few homeowners having ventured up into the hillsides to nab the best views)

We're talking about housing, and among homeowners to a huge degree "was your current mortgage originated before 2021?"

A lot of first time homeowners these days already have a few kids of their own

In house price news, words & phrases favoured by mainstream media are:
- dramatic fall
- slump
- steep decline
- worst drop in 40 years
- major downturn
- plunging.

I'm guessing the headline writers are more likely homeowners & property investors, rather than first home buyers or renters. #auspol

Hypothetical question: Your fiancé proposes with your dream engagement ring. Some time later, the ring gets chipped or loses a stone. Who do you think should take responsibility for getting it repaired—the person who proposed with the ring or the person wearing it?

I argued at the time that most issues and interests are citywide (e.g. electricity costs, homelessness policy, police accountability) not based on neighborhood. Renters also move around more, so district accountability is inevitably biased toward homeowners who live in one place permanently.
