@ellieanderphd.bsky.social In what seems like an absurdist question, I am currently watching Ghostbusters, and in the scene whre Gozer tells them they have to think to choose tbe destructor, Venkman suggests J. Edgar Hoover as an idea, without being the thought. How was that not the destroyer?

During his famous December 1970 meeting with President Richard Nixon, Elvis requested a federal narcotics badge and explicitly flagged the Beatles as a "force for anti-American spirit" due to their counterculture influence. Elvis later approached FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover

Saw the Hoover Dam today. Toured the power plant. 10/10 recommend.

Also the mismatch between the water level in the 1990s video and the current water level is jarring.

I don’t know what to do about that.

Like, it seems equally valuable to understand the forces influencing plankton stocks—which provide us half of our oxygen—as we do with the stock market.

Honestly, I sorta lost interest in today’s laureates when I learned that one of them works for Hoover Institution and advocates for flat tax.

"But if you really do want to save the country, at some point you can’t simply depend on the failures of your rivals. We remember Franklin Roosevelt today not for capitalizing on the failures of Herbert Hoover in the 1932 election, but for what he then did as president."

To be fair, Colleen Hoover characters have a habit of having rather bizarre names. Verity is one of the more normal names.

Conservation's the word: Reduced-water usage makes dollars AND sense
I’ve seen several different news reports in recent months covering the western U.S. water crisis. If I recall correctly, the most recent one I saw was a “Climate Central” report presented on the “PBS NewsHour”. A significant part of that report focused on the level of the Colorado River, here again, if I recall correctly, and how far it has dropped in recent times behind both the Hoover and Glen Canyon dams. Colorado River water is shared among the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah in the United States. It also reaches into Mexico. According to Wikipedia: “Large-scale river management began in the early 1900s, with major guidelines established in a series of international and US interstate treaties known as the ‘Law of the River’. The US federal government constructed most of the major dams and aqueducts between 1910 and 1970; the largest, Hoover Dam, was completed in 1935. Numerous water projects have also involved state and local governments. With all of their waters fully allocated, both the Colorado and the neighboring Rio Grande are now considered among the most controlled and litigated river systems in the world. Since 2000, extended drought has conflicted with increasing demands for...

They did *what?*

My seething rage aside, I really don't think this is going to work out for Pervert Hoover the way he thinks it will. Omar was ready to throw hands with a man twice her size for spritzing her with vinegar. I don't imagine this desperate flailing is going to cow her into submission.

(I just went to see a film adaptation of a Colleen hoover novel. I think it’s pretty clear what’s going on there)

This is like when the Queen “supposedly” told Pervert Hoover “you are the best president I have ever met”. Oh and she “supposedly” knighted him when they were all alone. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 She NEVER said that and the VP Pervert was NEVER alone with her. He is a pathetic liar!

Not to mention that the stock market has hit record highs under every president since Hoover, except for FDR and Carter.

Pervert Hoover it is.
Here's one for the "usual suspects" files. More MAGA men are arrested and imprisoned for sexual abuse of minors and child rape than men from any other political party.

Just like their false idol, Pervert Hoover.

I finished my first Colleen Hoover book, Woman Down. 3/5. It was relatable in terms of being about a writer struggling with writer's block and is trying to find her muse. Ending dragged out for me. Best way to describe it is like those "scandalous" lifetime movie dramas lol
