An 8-bit Mistress of the Dark in a horror adventure from the appropriately named Horrorsoft. 🦇

Follows on from the events of the 1988 movie of the same name.

Engine question (oh no)
I've wanted to make a myst/horrorsoft style game for a decade now & I'm finally thinking about practicing with short projects.

For this type of game is it better to use rpgmaker, renpy, or godot? (I have oooold experience with unity but there's definitely downsides)

Accolade: Did you make that game about Elvira yet?
Horrorsoft: Yeah I made it really gory and horrifying, just liked you asked boss.

Halloween may be over, but the CONTROVERSY! Halloween saga isn't, as we finish this up with four real nasty British computer horror adventure games from Horrorsoft.

It's the Horrorsoft Quadfecta! It's real violent! Real scary! BOOOOO!!! SCARE!! AGHHHH!!

Sutton Coldfield was home to AdventureSoft and HorrorSoft, which did Simon the Sorcerer, some Elvira games and Waxworks! As a Brummie I'm always quite proud of that.

I think I saved Horrorsoft's best for last? I don't know, I know the least about this. Streaming Elvira: Personal Nightmare! ... *squints* (SF6 first)

Horrorsoft/Adventuresoft were masters of Amiga & VGA era pixel art.

Remembered about horrorsoft lately

It’s funny that Horrorsoft was a subsidiary of Adventuresoft who made the cuddlier ‘Simon the Sorcerer’ not long after, they shared some of the same artists across those releases so the style persists, they’re all amazingly well rendered painterly games even if the horror ones go way OTT!

I feel like a horror immersive sim would be both fun and infuriating.

Kicking ideas around for the Ash/Kenada horror game.

Kinda like Deus Ex mixed with horrorsoft titles. (Waxworks, Elvira 1 & 2) probably no rpg elements, though. Thief prob would have been a better example.

has any indie developer revived the Horrorsoft aesthetic in a modern game yet? bc they should, it’s so evocative.

I genuinely want to know if anyone at Horrorsoft had ever seen an episode of her show, because we didn’t have it over here, or the movie. The character and tone are just so… so wrong.

Heya folks, here's the intro to Waxworks by Horrorsoft and Adventure Soft.

Well, folks, my PC is officially back up and running with its new power supply. Definitely glad that no parts were damaged when my old one died.

Good old Horrorsoft. Exactly what's on the label. They also made two Elvira, Mistress of the Dark games.

PC-98 was wild with its graphics.
Hell, even the 88 had gnarly visuals. Games like Produce stuck with me because of the unique visuals I never saw in EU games growing up. (Aside Amigas Horrorsoft titles)

Those artists back then were masters of their craft.

I started sketching out ideas for my horror game as well. Kinda leaning into ye old-school PC88 era like adventure game.

Came to me while watching Dead of Brain and just happening to glance over to the Elvira Horrorsoft game I own.

Kinda makes sense considering the story.

wait, I have never even heard of Horrorsoft, I want these now so badly.

(also, I think Hob's Barrow does)

The developers for the Elvira games (Horrorsoft)
Did Personal Nightmare first, then the two Elvira games, then moved on to Waxworks (which is an incredibly gory title)

Then they being a bunch of mad lads did an absolute 180 and made a wonderfully charming point and click called Simon the sorcerer.
