I had so much fun talking about hourly comic day at Sequential Scotland, I hope more folk will join in on the fun for 8 February 2027!

It was fun to meet @rhubarbwitch at #sequentialscotland in #glasgow this year - and great fun to read about Angels and Demons. Anyone who does hourly comic day should get a medal!

Part 5 [FINAL] I've decided that it's not that deep and that creating anything at all is good.
#hourlycomicday #hourlies
I don't want to feel ashamed of being a digital- only artist, but I am. I don't want to think it's lesser but isn't having an original drawing more special than a digital print? Even if that's true, owning physical media isn't the only way to be touched by art. I've seen all of my favourite art through a screen. The message matters as much as the medium. So I think it's probably fine. Art is so much more than process and outcome. Every artist's journey is paved with hope and heartbreak; pride age self-loathing; discipline and whimsy; skill, taste and humanity. And that's why art made with generative AI is disgusting. So I've decided that it doesn't fucking matter whether my art is traditional or digital; messy or neat. I'm here. I'm alive and I'm makimg the art I want to. That's enough.

Part Three! More artist angsting...
#HourlyComicDay #HourlyComicDay2026
A comic page. Art supplies litter the page with a pair of hands at the bottom. The right hand is wearing a draing glove, the left hand is actually another right hand. I messed up there. But I don't think anyone is actually going to notice. The text reads: I stopped drawing traditionally a long time ago. I couldn't bear the process. I despised the mistakes I couldn't correct. I hated the way the pen felt in my hand. Returning to it now, I feel the familiar ache. The way my hand hurts. But now I give less of a shit about the imperfections. And that's nice.

Part 2 of Hourly Comic Day: Insufferable Artist Edition! Thinking about tactile art in a digital era.....

#HourlyComicDay #Hourlies
A comic panel featuring a bunch of tools to make air dry clay sculptures. The text reads: I wanted to make a birthday gift for a good friend. I was going to draw something, but I decided to make something out of air dry clay, which I had never done before. A comic panel with a pair of hends gently rolling a ball of clay. The text reads: I asked myself why didn't I just draw something. The thing I'm good at and know how to do. Why is that worth less than an amateur sculpture? What is the appeal of holding art in your hands? Bex is drawing on her bed. The text reads: I'm starting to enjoy this. The feel of paper. The smell of marker. Feeling connected to the art. This is what I was hoping for. Bex holds her sketchbook. The text reads: But am I actually more connected to the art? Or am I just enjoying the novelty of a new process. I enjoy the idea of this. Is that authentic?

I bought a physical sketchbook for the first time this decade and I have some feelings about it
#HourlyComicDay #HCD #Hourlies
A two panel comic. In the first panel, Bex is holding up a sketchbook. She says, "I bought a physical sketchbook even though I hate drawing traditionally." The second panel is a close-up of Bex's grumpy face. She says, "Like, REALLY hate it." A continuation from the previous comic. A tiny Bex is stood on a giant Sketchbook with a giant iPad behind her. she says, "I fucking hate that gen AI makes me doubt the value of my digital work now. Seriously, who gives a shit?" A continuation from the previous page. A hand double taps a surface with two fingers, this is how you undo a line in Procreate. The text reads: My digital art is clean to a fault, something I've spent the last few years trying to unlearn. Is a wobbly line more authentic than a smooth line? Can you feel the artist through the tremors of their work? A continuation from the previous page. A large panel that's mostly black, with some semi abstract white forms scattered about. They look like leaves or flowers, but it's not specific. The text reads: But it takes a lot of effort and study to daw a smooth line, even if it's digital. Is that effort not also authentic?

I’ve always admired this tradition from afar, but this year I’m finally joining in!

I’ll be updating this thread throughout the day ✏️

Hoping this will also be my first step in a more active comic practise

A black and white cover photo that reads “my first hourly comics (sorta)” in my handwriting. Underneath is a scribble self portrait and there are decorative stars. Panel 1: I’m tucked bed, text reads “my morning began later than planned, as always” Panel 2: a silhouette of a person running labelled “not me”, text reads “Jacob always gets up before me. Before we moved in together I still had this issue but only I witnessed it every day” Panel 3: I’m getting into bed while Jacob reads, speech bubble reads “I’ll use your alarm in the morning”, text reads “the audience makes me feel more like a liar…” Panel 4: Jacob and I look up at a train board where everything is cancelled, text reads: “he’s not here this weekend though. I wasn’t supposed to be either”

I don't think I'll be able to do more then this but let's see
Midnight - 3am ASLEEP - Lee sleeping on his side holding his body pillow Briefly at 3 am - Lee briefly at 3 am wakes and looks at his alarm clock, it glows red at him, 3:04 am Lee rolls to his side and says "fuck you" to the alarm clock. it now has cartoony sad/mad eyes on the back of it 5am contemplating playing a game or doing while waking up more - Lee is sitting on the toilet, pants at his ankles, eyes are closed hearing my mom comforting the kid (she must have had a nightmare) Lee is still on the toilet, eyes now opened as he listens to the voices from the other room - the voices are in speech bubbles, saying "it's ok. go back sleep" whine whine whine "I know but it's SO early" Lee is sitting on his bed before he flops down onto his bed/ pillow - Got back in bed so she didn't hear me moving around and decide she has to be awake too read in bed (what can you do) - Lee is now laying in bed, under the covers on his side, phone in hand 6.30am start feeling hungry. start the day - Lee is leaning up, still holding his phon and still under the covers. a disgruntled look on his face quietly tiptop to my office Lest I wake the demon (child) - Lee is hunched in on himself, hands slightly forward in front of him as he's covered in sweat. a smaller doodle showing an exageratedly long hallway, lee very tiny and in the "creeping quietly pose" with a pair of red eyes staring out of a pitch black doorway morning pill + scrolling - lee is popping a pill into his mouth and then sitting as his desk, scrolling social media see its hourlies day - realize it's the 1st and I have a STUPID amount of work to do - Two headshot doodles/ emojis of Lee. THe first has him with diamond eyes to show excitement - the other head shows closed eyes and a frown 7am -8am morning chores - Lee is putting a plate into the dishwasher and Lee is putting a dry plate into the cupboard stretching - Lee is stretching by holding a dumbell behind his back small crisis about my life, age, failures, where I want to go from here, the state of the world, the rest of the year, the rest of the day, tired of raising a kid - Lee is laying face down on the floor with the test above him Work & the breakfast of champions (chips & Dip + CHips & and salsa) Lee is sitting ont the floor with his tablet on his small work desk with two bowls next to him

A belated #hourlycomicday post - last year I was late by 5 months, this year I’m late by 3 months!

Life’s been chaotic, but I’m slowly getting my rhythm back in this 2 kid life, post-remission.
