It’s important to remember that the vast majority of humanistic / historical scholarship is done to a high scholarly standard and is just as legitimate as STEM scholarship in so far as it has been peer reviewed. There is no general crisis of low standards in historical or humanistic scholarship. 🗃️

I followed a similar trajectory. I think there are people who come to libertarianism with good faith humanistic values, and end up disillusioned by how people identifying as libertarians tend to behave.

That’s not true. The solution is: students who care about learning, small classes, deep, humanistic connection, no grades or grades solely on process rather than outcome, changing the whole notion of assessment to remove the things that rewards cheating.

This whole thread, with the only friendly amendment that you can substitute at least “All humanistic inquiry” for “Historical research.”
Historical research does not need to be done faster or in greater volume for any social or intellectual purpose whatever; if anything, it needs to be done more slowly and deliberately than at present, by people allowed the training, time, space, and resources to do it that way.
"This will transform historical research!" Cool but it's already being transformed out of existence by the same forces pushing these transformative technologies.
Forgive us if we're skeptical of a moment that's telling us "This will help you do your work--which we despise--faster and better."
