A silver penny of King Alexander III of Scotland with beautiful rainbow toning. It was minted sometime between 1250 & c.1280. This specimen is from the Hunterian collection.

After reading Alan Montgomery’s book about the Antonine Wall I’m thinking of visiting the Hunterian - the oldest public museum in Scotland - at University of Glasgow to see their many resources about that Roman Monument- now a World Heritage Site

An altar to Diana and Apollo which was dedicated by Marcus Cocceius Firmus - a Centurion of the Second Augusta Legion. It was found at Auchendavy Roman Fort in East Dunbartonshire, and is now part of the collections at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow 📸 My own #EpigraphyTuesday

It was lovely to see homage to the Hunterian Museum’s Evelyn Tables in @realgdt.bsky.social Frankenstein. These four tables were made in Padua, taking arteries, veins and nerves dissected in Padua’s famous anatomical theatre, pasting them to boards and varnishing them to protect and preserve

The ‘Jewel of Antiquity’ - a stone fragment from Balmuildy Roman Fort that names Urbicus as Governor of Britain, and in doing so identifies and dates the Antonine Wall. Part of the collections at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow 📸 My own #EpigraphyTuesday #RomanScotland
