Living on live bivalve shells, this is poorly documented hydrozoa has unique body plan

their relationship are possibly like this, the hydroids are using bivalve as locomotion, meanwhile the bivalve are protected because the hydroids has nematocyst

How gorgeous are these Hydrozoa medusae?! These are a first for me - medusae from the family Rathkeidae. You see the bulbous bits inside the bell? They’re little buds of new medusae! These hydroids can asexually reproduce in this way. How cool is that!!

This is supremely cool! The Hydrozoa medusae are still plentiful in my samples at the moment, so I took the opportunity to film these amazing animals in slow motion. Absolutely amazing!

Another little hydroid medusa with a full tummy! Hydrozoa are part of the phylum Cnidaria, along with jellyfish, sea anemones and corals. Some hydroids have this medusa stage as part of the their reproductive life cycle. 1/2

A rather delightful hydrozoa medusa. It was rather large and I couldn’t see the whole thing under even under the low-powered microscope. I’m not sure of the genus - if you know, please tell!

Velella velella, by-the-wind sailor, is not a jellyfish, they are a colony of hydrozoa polyps, kind of like a man o' war, but without a harmful sting! Like corals, they have symbiotic organisms inside that can photosynthesize.
