i know we have predicted about 10 of the last 2 realignments but vote preferences *can* change and there is no guarantee that the electorate will necessarily be a polarized deadlock, in fact sustained hypercompetitive elections is actually fairly atypical of american politics

My husband will not play board games with me because I go from cheerful chaos agent to hypercompetitive assassin in under 30 seconds and I apparently don't come with an off switch.
I don't play tabletop games because it turns out I am extremely competitive in an exceptionally unpleasant way and I've spent too much time cultivating an air of genial support for others to blow it all on a game where the goal is to get happy bunnies to their comfy warren or whatever
I call "Settlers of Catan" the "game to cause divorces". Unleash that thing on a polycule and you have a new world war.

I have to say one of the funniest parts of American college admissions becoming hypercompetitive and many of the in-demand colleges being more about their status as elite signifiers is that we basically created an American Gaokao

"Hypercompetitive contracting process" is exactly right... and I'm still not sure why it is legal to terminate millions of dollars in contract midstream. Work is being done for the benefit of the federal government, people have been hired, labs built, etc, and now stopped without notice. Appalling.
