Here's my full interview with CNBC, covering my bear case against generative AI, OpenAI's questionable finances, AI's lack of ROI, and how all of this is a symptom of the tech industry running out of hypergrowth ideas.

It's great to see the mainstream media discussing this.

Regrettably, there are actually no hypergrowth ideas left, and once the market accepts this, tech is going to have a rough time

We're at the end of the Rot-Com boom - every single weird, stupid concept (metaverse, crypto, generative AI) is a symptom of an industry that realizes that there isn't another trillion-dollar market to sell into having a dangerous, expensive mid life crisis.

RE: The Bailout answer, it did air on TV (this was two segments) - it's that you can't bail out the decelerating hypergrowth businesses. I'll try and get the full one

There is no "value," nor are there "profits" to share from a company like OpenAI. The only reason that the entire tech industry is focused on AI is because they're completely out of hypergrowth ideas.

This is the exciting launch business that incels crank hog to every night. Note the hypergrowth 28% YoY revenue decline.

Could be anything from really crazy stuff like multiple CEOs getting fired to their slow collapse into smaller companies. The AI bubble is the result of them running out of hypergrowth ideas. The massive capex comes from a place of desperation. They have nothing else. They’re out of ideas.
I'd love to hear your take on what Big Tech itself will do after the bubble pops. (I predict turbo-charged enshittification. No new markets to conquer or customers to entice. How else can they fill a multibillion dollar hole but by squeezing the lemon harder?)

It rules so incredibly hard that we effectively outsourced a decade of electrification policy to this man baby, who never shared any of the underlying policy goals except to the extent that he could build a "hypergrowth" stock pump out of his involvement
Head of Tesla's supercharger program departs:

'Musk suggested he would slow the buildout of the Supercharger network. “We will continue to build out some new Supercharger locations, where critical, and finish those currently under construction,” he wrote.'

Look there’s lots of upsides to it. But it’s also as far as I can see it’s still a crypto-funded VC-backed Silicon Valley firm pursuing hypergrowth…& then what?

Bluesky is a PBC (public benefit corporation) with the mission “to develop and drive large-scale adoption of technologies for open and decentralized public conversation.”

From the start, our goal has been to build a decentralized social network that is usable by the mainstream.
I see it as a real accomplishment that BSky and ATProto have managed to finally crack the code of making decentralized, open source based social media actually appealing and usable by the masses and mainstream. It's a HUGE step in the right direction and should be celebrated

Had a great time talking to @chrislhayes.bsky.social for his AI End Game series on MSNow, covering the AI bubble, the SaaSpocalypse, the end of tech's era of hypergrowth, and the underlying economic fragility of data centers and the greater AI industry.

if you want me to embrace ai you need to first convince me it is the best use of trillions of (our) dollars and then you need to convince me its more than a fake hypergrowth ponzi scheme meant to funnel billions of taxpayer dollars into the pockets of billionaires

Ya know, probably should label these bottles better. Oops!

The premise of this article — that Bluesky needs hypergrowth — is exactly the problem.

The idea that internet companies should grow infinitely and monopolize their space, fattened on VC cash driven by optimistic valuations, is exactly what ruined the internet. www.piratewires.com/p/bluesky-is...

When I originally voiced my concerns back in early 2024 about generative AI/AI compute not being a real hypergrowth movement, it was because I feared these companies would massively over-invest. I didn’t anticipate the blind lust of private equity, which has created the real risk.
