Yesterday our vet yesterday was saying how relieved she is that Marcel doesn't have a common heart condition in cats called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(HCM). It turns out HCM is much more common than most people think. cats.com/hypertrophic...

And of course that's in addition to almost 1/3 of Maine Coons being genetically predisposed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - a painful, debilitating, and often deadly heart condition. 😢 www.ufaw.org.uk/cats/maine-c...

Marcel had a Big Medical Drama last month when he presented with an enlarged heart and something going on in his lungs, but it disappeared. It was extremely stressful but we've done every conceivable type of follow-up and he's fine now! It was like a pseudo-hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Oh no, did he get some blood drawn recently?

* The 1 in 7 prevalence refers to the general cat population. The chances of developing HCM shoots up dramatically in purebred cats, especially Maine Coons and Ragdolls. scienceforanimalwelfare.org/species/cat/...

I'm supposed to get my cat an echocardiogram every six to twelve months but I waited fifteen because I am poor and the good news is that her hypertrophic cardiomyopathy still doesn't require medication, which seems pretty good given that she's already twelve

Went on a twt/X ramble about dabis scars being hypertrophic & how that affects the skin elasticity (his skin would sit tighter over muscle/bone when he moves), so I wound up sketching it.

It's good that they are not "real" Maine Coons! That breed is gorgeous but prone to a horrific heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy amongst other things.

Female spider monkeys have large, pendulous hypertrophic clitorises (clitorides?) but they are NOT pseudopenises.

This is because the urethra does not run through the clitoris.
Tell me a fun fact.
