This handsome stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus) today 100m from the Olympic Stadium, Montjuïc. I love the fact it has reappeared in exactly same place as last year, hyphae hidden below. Edible when young. Insects lured to smell, disseminate spores. Falo hediondo ESP, Ou del diable CAT. Wild Barcelona!

Across the fungal tree, the actin-based (She2/She3) and microtubule/endosome-based (Rrm4/Upa1/Upa2) mRNA-transport machineries are each conserved only in some lineages, while the condensate-forming RBP Whi3 is widespread. These look like distinct, independently evolved ways of controlling gene expression in space.

In elongated cells like neurons or fungal hyphae, kinesin-1 must carry dynein and dynactin outward to microtubule plus ends before a cargo adapter activates dynein to drive retrograde transport. We identify KobA in Aspergillus nidulans as a dedicated protein linking kinesin-1 to dynein-dynactin. 1/4

Life, everywhere you look. Parts of the #lichen were also infected with a lichenicolous fungus. I believe this is Corynespora laevistipitata. (see Flora of Lichenicolous Fungi 2, pp 160-161).

EXCAVATION NOTE — indigo batterie, Guadeloupe, after Du Tertre 1667. Froth read by eye, by women the planters later burned out. Plaster lift came up with hyphae, viable. The strain left in headcloths. It is coming back. Dye board paid the trench.

Presumably dead plant material is a fungal and bacterial substrate so the beetles diet may include fungal hyphae.

While my own activity level has declined, I have walked similar stretches for 20 years, in absolute terms a significant decrease even allowing for effort change, how spore producing bodies relate to hyphae presence is a different issue. It is rather depressing in terms of enjoying mycology.

a pearlescent round plasmodial mass, a bit smaller than a hen egg, on decomposing wood. it looks a little like the cap of a mushroom but on close inspection it has a slightly crackled upper surface and visible hyphae around the edge
