The Pelican Nebula (IC5070) is ~1800 ly away in the constellation Cygnus. It is filled with dark dust clouds and glowing ionized gas. It gets its name from its resemblance to a pelican in profile, sculpted by stellar winds and ultraviolet radiation from young, massive stars. #nebulae

The Pelican Nebula(IC5070 and IC5067) is an emission nebula resembling a pelican. This SHO multi-spectral narrow band image shows the dominate areas of ionized Sulfur(reds), Hydrogen(yellows) and Oxygen (blues) within the region. Photo taken a few hours before dawn.

Visible before sunrise, the #PelicanNebula #IC5070 is a vast star-forming hydrogen cloud in #Cygnus, around 1,800 light-years away. Its dark dust lanes and glowing gas, see my #Astrophotography, are shaped by intense radiation from nearby young stars, revealing a turbulent nursery of future suns.

This is IC5070, often referred to as the Pelican Nebula in Cygnus. To me it also looks like a dove bringing peace. It is illuminated by a hot blue type O5 star that also illuminates the neighboring North American Nebula. More details in my gallery: astrob.in/fh5keh/B/

2 nuits 🔭 (13 & 13/07) pour un total de 106x180sec soit environ 5h de poses sur cette cible.
iC5070 ds le Cygne. La nébuleuse est distante de 2000 AL et d'une taille d'environ 45 AL de diamètre.

A new one for me tonight, and a pretty long exposure time. This is IC5070 or the Pelican Nebula which is 1800 light years from earth. Really happy with the finished image as I've never looked at this Nebula before, and I think it came out really moody and interesting. Let me know what you think !

A red emission nebula with star clusters. A 107 minute exposure using a 50mm f5 250mm focal length quadruplet refractor using a Sony IMX676 (CMOS; Starvis 2) 12.5 megapixel sensor and a broad band filter.
