The end of an era! The farewell of @bahn.de's ICE3M - a train that once heralded the glorious expansion of high speed rail across Europe, connecting 🇳🇱, 🇧🇪 and 🇫🇷 to the ICE network. A train that even once went through the tunnel to London 🇬🇧 for a Germany <> London rail link that never came.

Well time to board another train, this time an ICE3M (one of the many 3 variations) for the trip up to Frankfurt. For the train people it was the ICE624 departing 15:54 Würzburg Hbf to arrive 17:04 Frankfurt Hbf

As zaterdag is het zo ver: de jubileumrit voor 25 jaar ICE International en het afscheid van de Baureihe 406. We rijden een mooie route door Duitsland en Nederland met een herinnering aan de Expo 2000, door de bollenvelden en via een bijzondere grensovergang. Alle info, zie nvbs.com/nieuws/afsch...

Op 12 april rijden 2 stellen ICE3M Baureihe 406 een afscheidsrit door Nederland. De rit is openbaar toegankelijk, zitplaatsreservering wordt dringend aangeraden.

Very tired right now, I originally planned to be on the ICE home by now but due to delays I’m now taking a 04:46 train from Frankfurt, but did get to experience the full ICE3M goodbye tour

And now the total route I did, 2283km of travel in a little under 48 hours, 24 of which was spent on a train, I’d say I did great actually :)

Correctie: 35 jaar. Voordat de ICE3M naar Nederland kwam reden er immers al 10 jaar ICEs in Duitsland.

The ICE3M seam a good idea but Renfe its studing It that posibility my humble opinion It will be a disaster since its reability and internal traction motors are totally diferent from the S103 there from Bombadier if im not wrong

Procurement for a new fleet of AVE has been considered for a few months at Renfe.
As a stop-gap measure, may I also suggest buying 2nd-hand:
- the 13 ICE3M from DB/NS
- some ETR-500 from TI

I don't think it's a lack of motivation. I think it is a lack of ability and competence, having bought the wrong trains (and too few of them). Renfe needs a strategy post Talgo 106 fiasco NOW, but it does not have one.
