Gbala from the Tumour Virology Lab, ICGEB Trieste, participated in the Africa CDC Continental Therapeutic Repurposing Research Platform meeting in Casablanca, Morocco🇲🇦 last week, dedicated to strengthening Africa's response to infectious diseases. The discussions centred on how therapeutic repurposing can accelerate interventions for priority diseases affecting the continent🌍, and how multidisciplinary platforms which connect researchers, clinicians, policymakers, innovators, funders, and communities are crucial in enabling experts to work together towards shared goals. The key take-away: the biggest challenges are rarely waiting for more experts - they are waiting for experts who can work together.🤝

This week at the #FAO #Science & #Innovation Forum, ICGEB’s Fernando Cantão presents #B_INOC’s circular farm model: waste feeds black soldier fly larvae, which become feed for poultry and fish, plus fertilisers for crops.

Il battito del cuore contribuisce a frenare la crescita dei tumori nel tessuto cardiaco. A dirlo è uno studio internazionale pubblicato su Science, coordinato dall’Università di Trieste in collaborazione con l’International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) e il Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS. Il lavoro, intitolato Mechanical load inhibits tumor growth in mouse and human hearts, richiama l’attenzione su un aspetto finora poco studiato: le forze fisiche che agiscono nel miocardio non si limitano a regolare la funzione cardiaca, ma possono anche influenzare il comportamento delle cellule tumorali, fino a rallentarne la proliferazione.
