The IDEXX came back today panleuk negative on the kittens who passed. So we are guessing sepsis/bacterial infection of some kind. The third kitten continues to be doing well.
Caraway is cleared to come home with meds and we’re on the way to get him.

Tough week so far for us… two little 5-week old bottle babies very suddenly passed away within a day of each other, & we’re trying to figure out why while watching the last sibling for any sign of anything amiss. Caraway, our Spice Rack kitten, has been in the hospital & is still dealing w/GI stress

They drew some extra blood while having his FIV/FeLV test done so we are looking into sending it out to IDEXX for a testosterone test. They already have the blood and it’s the least invasive that wouldn’t require us to bring him back to a vet.

Tests & treatments are not high cost. I feel bad for asking for help with small items, but I do need the help.

Until we get the IDEXX back, we are assuming he is sick too and there’s nothing worse than waiting for the other shoe to drop.
They are not at my house, but the foster has ruled out environmental factors since the kittens are housed alone and contained. It’s just very sad and doesn’t make sense.

I just passed my 1st veterinary medicine continuing education course. Critical Care diagnostic practices. I chose cardiology. Most of the senior hospice care I do is heart related. I still do not want to be a Dr. I love being NOT a Dr. I would love to have the certs and trust to help more pets.

The kittens who passed went so suddenly without any obvious signs they were declining, so our first and most obvious answer was panleuk. But the vet we saw for the first kitten didn’t have any panleuk/parvo SNAP tests, which forced us to send out to IDEXX to confirm, which takes 5 days.
