Last stop of the day was at Ashford IECC including a go on the sim. The IECC controls from south east London to the Channel Tunnel & HS1. Here’s HS1 looking moody under the moon before I got a lift from Southeastern non-stop to St Pancras. Next stop is weekend.

There’s a whole appendix to the IECC (model energy code) on solar-ready roofs that I’ve heard complaints about for schools – requiring all this structural reinforcement (= embodied carbon) for solar that often never got added. And may now never be able to be added. codes.iccsafe.org/content/IECC...

I recently did research modeling the impact of aggressive code adoption over the next 10-15 years. We assumed ~4-5% savings for each code cycle compared to previous code based on PNNL assumptions. I had no idea about the backstory of the big shift in IECC 2021. Thanks @volts.wtf!

I had such a great time at the HDSID All About Downtown street fair on Saturday! My team and I spent the day talking with residents about their concerns and providing information on city resources. I was also so happy to be able to connect with other local organizations throughout the day.

The code it's modifying is the International Energy Conservation Code for commercial buildings. "Commercial" here means everything except residential buildings up to 3 stories above grade. Match the section names to the references in the rule to follow the ball. codes.iccsafe.org/content/IECC...
It’s super confusing too because ICC is an ANSI org, but only for specific niche standards like bleachers and outdoor sheds. The flagship I-codes are not developed in an ANSI-complaint way.
