On April 1, 2019, Denis joined us for a premiere screening of HIGH LIFE and a conversation with Ty Burr. One of many great screenings co-presented with our friends at IFFBoston over the years!

"After seeing it at IFFBoston, Filipiñana is still one of my favorite movies of the year. Using immaculately composed shots reminiscent of Tati and Wes Anderson, director Rafael Manuel turns a golf course into an endless elitist purgatory.

Liked it at IFFBoston, but it kind of boggles my mind that a college town like Worcester, MA doesn't have a movie theater within city limits other than an itinerant screening series and hasn't since 2020.
Rafael Manuel’s mesmerizing feature debut, FILIPIÑANA, opens in New York and Toronto this Friday before expanding nationwide, with special Q&A appearances 💬 at select theaters!

We’ve got so much to be excited about this fall at The Brattle! We kick off our program with a 25th anniversary celebration of Hayao Miyazaki’s SPIRITED AWAY, followed by the under-the-radar stunner FILIPIÑANA from this year’s IFFBoston.

Willem Dafoe gives one of his very best performances in LATE FAME, which opens at the Brattle this weekend and is rolling out to theaters around the country. I reviewed it back in April when it screened at IFFBoston.
Review - Late Fame
Starring Willem Dafoe, Greta Lee, Edmund Donovan, Clark Johnson.

Saw it at IFFBoston where Boots did a Q&A, was wonderful!

Oh, I'll probably mix in Boston Underground, IFFBoston, and even a New York Asian Film Festival. I usually get at least a thumbs up from Mitch for BUFF.

I vaguely remember folks at IFFBoston one year reminding festival-goers that some of the folks on either side of them in line are also excited about Avengers Endgame but are going to be at the festival until Wednesday so be cool.

The closing night film at IFFBoston this year was a screwball cringe take on "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" with Penelope Cruz reminding one of her often-obscured comedic talent. My review:

IFFBoston 2026: The Invite
Any resemblance between The Invite and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is not coincidental. From a screenplay written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones and directed by and starring Olivia Wilde as…

@812filmreviews.com does a great interview with Boots Riley, who was everywhere in Boston during IFFBoston. I'm filing my I LOVE BOOSTERS review today. It's bonkers (the movie, not my review).

A British film that I wanted to like more, but the level of engagement and purpose is almost completely obscured by a technician's approach to its craft. #roseofnevada

IFFBoston 2026: Rose of Nevada
Having directed features since the early 2000’s, Mark Jenkin wasn’t on my radar until Enys Men (2022), which earned scattered raves (particularly from UK-based critics). Upon viewing it a…
