Dork 5 - @evandorkin.bsky.social knocks it out of the park with 12 pages (84 strips!) of Fun, plus the Invisible College, which features an amazing bit about Earl Haymaker, who wrote those playground songs every child seemed to know, no matter where they grew up!

DC's Piranha Press imprint was a noble experiment that resulted in at least one comics masterpiece: OTD in 1990, #KyleBaker released the mighty #WhyIHateSaturn. I was already a fan of his art, but was not prepared for him to become my favorite comic writer. [thread]

OTD in 2021 the first issue of #WonderWoman: Historia: The Amazons came out. This brilliant series written by @kellysue.bsky.social is without question one of the best superhero comics of the 2020s. Art for the first issue by the consistently excellent @philjimeneznyc.bsky.social

OTD in 2022, the final issue of @ryannorth.ca and @chrisfenoglio.bsky.social 's wonderful #StarTrek: #LowerDecks mini-series was released. This does a remarkable job of capturing everything great about the TV show. This same team recently released a ST:LD CYOA OGN: #WarpYourOwnWay!

OTD in 2019, the fourth issue of @seananmcguire.bsky.social and @takmiyazawa.bsky.social 's #Spider-Gwen: #GhostSpider was released. I was happily surprised that a line from my band #OoklatheMok 's song "Super Powers" was used as the title of this issue ("Like Stars from the Sky").

OTD in 2010, the incomparable @grickle.bsky.social released The Book of Grickle. If you're not familiar with Graham Annable's work, fix that soon. His ability to communicate a broad range of facial expressions with relatively few lines is unparalleled.

OTD in 2016, @tomking.bsky.social, #TimSeeley, and @mikeljanin.bsky.social gave us #Grayson 16. While Sheriff of Babylon was a serious meditation on King's work for the CIA in Iraq, Grayson was a more light-hearted look at the spy game, with Dick Grayson as Agent 37 of Spyral.

1. On 1.19.93, #PeterMilligan and @duncanfegredo.bsky.social released the first issue of their masterpiece #Engima. A meta-narrative that uses super-heroic dual identities as a metaphor for coming out (or closeted homosexuality as a metaphor for secret identities). Also, lizards.

OTD in 2015 @tomking.bsky.social entered my consciousness with the remarkable #TheSheriffofBabylon 1. This powerful character study (told from several perspectives) has one of the most arresting (and sobering) openings you'll ever read.

OTD in 2004, #EdBrubaker and #SteveEpting began their memorable run on #CaptainAmerica. This issue ended with the "death" of the Red Skull, in a storyline that introduced the #WinterSoldier, bringing #BuckyBarnes back into the Marvel Universe after a half-century in comic book limbo.

Absolute Vertigo - So much more than a preview issue, this features an Invisibles story that was not reprinted in the original collections, a 2 page artist's jam with Steve Dillon, Sean Phillips, and 6 more, and is technically the first appearance of Preacher!

OTD in 1985, @jmdematteis.bsky.social and #JonJ.Muth gifted us with the 1st issue of #Moonshadow. The bones of the story are Dickensian but the plot trappings and tone are pure Vonnegut. If you like your space adventure served with empathy and existential philosophy, then dig in.

OTD in 1986, #DennyO'Neil and @denyscowan.bsky.social released the first issue of #TheQuestion, a remarkable reimagining of the character that ripped him from his Randian roots and placed him in the gentle arms of the Buddha. But with really great fight scenes.
