My Women's Worlds observation thus far is that Group A is boring and Group B is where it's at. I am loving watching Team Japan! And I want Hungary to score so badly.

Knowing the final score ahead of time since I'm watching it now on delay, I'm even more disheartened by Czechia's loss to Canada earlier today. They really hung in there in the first period!

I would really like to see this Switzerland team play Japan. THAT would be fun and interesting.

While the Flyers stuff was happening, Team USA made it 4-0 over Switzerland. Goal from Caroline Harvey as Hilary Knight & Alex Carpenter add their third set of assists to their tallies in the game. One period remains.

Kendall Coyne Schofield makes it 5-0 USA over Switzerland in the waning minutes of the game vs Switzerland. And that'll be your final score.

Yeesh it was only 2-1 after two periods. At some point you have to hold the Czechia power play accountable for not capitalizing earlier in the game, but that's also partially on coaching. Going 0/3 with the advantage before the rails came off wasn't ideal.

The thing about this Sweden vs Japan game is it's very clear that Sweden knows how to use their size vs a smaller Japanese squad. Sweden isn't playing that great overall, but they're able to prevent Japan from getting quality shot attempts.

Czechia wins their QF matchup vs Switzerland 7-0. Rough going for the Swiss, but a nice bounce back for Czechia after that collapse vs Canada.

Natálie Mlýnková of the University of Minnesota gets the hat trick for Team Czechia & Klára Peslarová earns a shutout.

The Quarterfinal Matchups are set for Thursday!

FIN vs SWE
USA vs GER
CZE vs SUI
CAN vs JPN

Kind of bummed that the Finland vs Sweden game is at 4 AM Eastern but I get why it's scheduled like that.

Akane Shiga leaves the game for now. She has 2 goals in the prior 3 games for Team Japan in #WomensWorlds and has been a huge part of their offense. She's got 19 SOG in the tournament prior to today.

Japan shuts out Germany 1-0. Rui Ukita with the lone goal in the game. Great goaltending on both ends tbh - Miyuu Masuhara got the 34 save shutout but Abstreiter played great and stopped 24 of 25 shots.

Japan, perhaps without Akane Shiga, faces Canada in the QF.

Oh man. After all that pressure by Czechia, USA takes the lead 2-1 on a strong backhand shot by Kelly Pannek. Doing that follow up netfront they needed to.

This first period has been lopsided in shots so far (11-5 USA) but Czechia has been playing with more jump for at least the last 8 minutes or so.

Switzerland goaltender Andrea Braendli had been holding strong so far in the first period vs Team USA despite a lot of netfront traffic. But a USA power play led to a Tessa Janecke goal.

1-0 USA

USA did some of what they needed to in the second period, and was able to capitalize on the power play. Have to better adjust to the physicality of Czechia to win it in the third.

I'm legitimately mad now. Czechia had been doing a decent job of not preventing shots per se, but making it harder for Canada to get clean chances. And then it just fell apart in one minute!!
