Also that "seems to long for" is carrying a ton of editorial weight in that sentence. A lot of these kind of pieces just assume some sort of immutable gender essentialism that just doesn't exist.

Unfortunately a thing that is true of a lot of comics fans seems to be that all their favorites have some immutable and holy Traits that are consistent in all contexts and any deviation means that the writers either don’t understand or actively hate their smol bean and want to destroy them
